About the IRC

Basic History

The International Rescue Committee was founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein regarding the threat of Nazis. The International Rescue Association (as it was called at the time) and the Emergency Rescue Committee formed together to create the IRC as we know it today. They started out small, helping people escape and deal with the Nazis, and eventually grew to the size they are today.

The IRC supports groups of people who have been displaced because of ethnic conflicts or environmental crises. This includes many different groups of people.
